About American Circus Educators (ACE)

The American Youth Circus Organization, a 501 (c) 3 organization, established the American Circus Educators Association in 2014.

For anyone identifying as a circus teacher, educator, coach, program director, parent, or administrator, ACE is the go-to resource for professional development, networking, and information about circus education. ACE is committed to assisting circus educators and is the recognized authority in all things related to circus education.

Since its foundation in 1998, when youth-focused circus education was the predominant form of circus education in the USA, AYCO, the parent organization of ACE, has provided support to circus educators. Since then, circus has grown in popularity, and its pupils today come in all ages, from young children to elderly people. In order to further serve the growing circus education community, AYCO established ACE.

With a strong commitment to serving the diversity of circus educators and their organizations under that branch, all adult community and networking programs are housed appropriately under ACE. Programs like the Safety Network, the Social Circus Network, the biennial American Circus Educators Conference, ACE Magazine, and our monthly ACE News email newsletter are examples of this commitment.

Through a range of youth-focused initiatives including our circus gear surprise membership bonus, youth-authored blog, youth-friendly website, biannual national festival, and annual regional festivals, AYCO is committed to specifically serving young people and their supporters.

Over time, circus education has changed. In the past, knowledge was either conferred through an apprenticeship system or was passed down through family tradition. Through circus schools, organizations, performing groups, and individual trainers and instructors, pedagogy and training methods have evolved over the past 100 years. The modern circus student can be almost anyone, from young children to elderly people and everyone in between. Circus education welcomes a variety of access points, from learners with a recreational focus to those aspiring to professional status. Youth circus, using circus as a tool for social change and therapy, adult health and well-being, professional career development, and artistic expression for all are just a few of the numerous techniques covered.
