Same Side Climb to Thigh Hitch is a classic move that we coach with attention to detail, to help our students gain height in the climb and set them up for success with other related moves. Our teaching tips focus on making this climb efficient and at the same time building good aerial habits for all the fun skills that come after.
We typically teach this climb at the beginning of our intermediate level, once students have a strong straddle up with energy to spare. It should be studied in relation to Opposite Side Climb to Hip Key, to understand the fabric theory behind it. The body positioning in each climb is a little bit different however, because to lock in a thigh hitch requires slightly different alignment than locking in a hip key.
