Scissors on the Silks is a drill that builds strength and movement understanding for the very beginning of a Windmill Hip Key. Students who are losing height in their hip keys benefit from this drill, as well as students just beginning to learn how to do a Windmill Hip Key.
We teach this in our intermediate level classes, once students have a strong lock off and are comfortable in a variety of climbs, and once they are working on their Straddle Ups in the air. Moving sideways can be challenging so breaking down this movement is very useful for building strength and proprioception as aerialists progress.
