Single Crucifix From the Ground, also sometimes called Around the Back Hold, is our beginner students’ first introduction to a support behind the back that’s held in place with the bottom arm. We refer to a crucifx as when the fabric crosses the back from one side of the torso to the other. We start teaching this from the ground for our newer students, and they’ll take it to the air later.
We often teach this skill in combination with skills like Crucifix Arabesque where the support is behind the back but held in place with a leg. This skill requires a strong wrist and shoulder and should be practiced with intention to keep the joints safe.
