Straddle Ups are such a foundational move in aerial, that a lot of times aerialists will rush through them in order to get to the fun stuff. But, establishing great technique as a foundation leaves students with plenty of strength and brain power to focus on the moves that come after.
We’ve broken up Straddle Up: From the Ground and Bent Arm Straddle Up: From the Air into two separate skills because we drill all of the important actions from the ground first, and work on having students eliminate any jump off of the floor, before taking it to the air. Then, when we take it into the air later, we can focus more energy on drills specific to getting the body beside the fabric efficiently.
