The Dragon Fly to Foot Flag Low Hoop Sequence is a bit of a devious sequence. This sequence is also an infinite sequence that automatically switches students to their other side. At one time, we noticed that a recent batch of more advanced students incorrectly associated a high hoop with being more advanced and low hoop with being more beginner. They had also stopped training and exploring their beginner skills because they incorrectly associated that only beginners do beginner skills.
This sequence was developed to demonstrate that a low hoop sequence can be challenging and that beginner skills are still awesome and are always worth exploring even for the most advanced students.
While we want to playfully correct some of our advanced students’ misinformed assumptions about skills, we primarily want to inspire them to be curious and explore their own movement style. We first encourage students to try the sequence and transitions the way we demo them, but if a particular transition doesn’t work for them after giving it a serious number of attempts, then we have them pause and explore to figure out a transition that works on their own bodies and with their own movement style.
