The Hug to J Roll Sequence on aerial sling is a fairly quick combo that starts from standing, travels up above the bottom of the sling, and then ends supported on one thigh in the bottom of the sling. This unique aerial sling combo makes for a nice midway section in a longer choreographic sequence, and it’s a fun one for aerial sling students to explore their own style and personality within the skills.
This advanced aerial sling combo does require a straddle up in the air, so in our aerial sling classes we save this for our advanced sling students or we modify it to remove the end of the sequence to make it accessible for students who aren’t inverting in the air yet.
When we teach aerial sling we consider it very important to master each skill in isolation first before putting the skills into a sequence. It’s especially important to master any aerial sling drop by itself first before including it in a sequence. Our aerial sling teaching tutorials for each skill in this sequence include progressions to safely master each skill in this sequence. Our aerial sling teaching tutorial video for this sequence covers the transitions in detail, as well as tips for aerial teachers who are teaching the sequence as a whole.
