This Intermediate Warm Up Sequence on Aerial Hoop is a class warm up concept we used for years with our students. We always changed it up, swapping out one skill or another to match what students were working on, but the basic structure stayed the same: start underneath the hoop, up to sit, up to stand, and then back down to the floor.
This is definitely a teaching sequence, not a performative one. Even though the skills are all fundamentals, there are a lot of important concepts at work. For our recreational students, this kind of sequence is a great segue from their outside life into their aerial space. We want them to focus inward, connect with their bodies, and feel the apparatus. Since we reused the basic structure, students needed very little coaching after their first introduction. It also gave us, the teachers, a way to observe how students were moving on the apparatus that day compared to previous days. Overall, it was a pleasant warm up that tuned students in without tiring them out.
