The Keyed Up Russian Climb is a variation of Russian Climb that incorporates a hip key action that results in a nice resting place. This climb involves a lot of up and down, and we often teach this as a simple resting position before we ever start students climbing with it.
Keying into a Russian is a nice support that can be used in many other ways too. We teach this toward the end of our beginner level or the beginning of our intermediate level, and we’ve found that most of our students love this climb for the many opportunities it provides. It is also a pre-requisite for Russian Pirrouette Climb, because turning into the fabric when it’s trying to spit you out is a really important component of that more complicated climb.
