Aerial Ground Drill for Overhead Shoulder Rotation Video Tutorial

This is a drill that works on external rotation in the shoulders with the arms overhead. That rotation is key for a strong and anatomically safe hanging position on any aerial apparatus. We use this drill in our warm-ups, or as shoulder pre-hab to keep the shoulders happy and healthy for aerial work.

This is a drill that we learned from Emily Scherb. She is a great resource for aerial anatomy and we highly recommend her books and courses for aerial teachers and serious aerialists.

This drill has a few common mistakes to watch out for, that we show in this video as well. When practicing this drill don’t worry if the range of motion feels like less than you expect. In that case work this drill consistently and you’ll see improvement over time that will help with overhead aerial work.
