The Belly Roll Transition is one of the most important skills in our core curriculum. Everyone who comes through our in-person classes will eventually learn this transition. It is a favorite transition for our students to add to choreography, it can lead to a variety of different skills and it teaches and reinforces so many fundamental lyra movement actions. Once students have mastered the leg work, then belly rolls can also be done one handed.
Once a student has mastered a Belly Roll it looks totally effortless, but the learning process typically has a lot of common mistakes. Getting students to understand that this is a leg skill and not an arm skill will get them focused on where all the work is happening. Make sure to check out the mistakes section below to learn more about this wonderful transition.
