Hollow Body hang on Aerial Hoop can be more challenging than it looks. Hanging with a strong tight body from straight arms is the foundation for more advanced skills like straight arm inversions and beats, but earlier on it’s important to be aware of what the shoulders and the core are doing and how to connect the body strongly as it hangs in the air.

Hollow Body Hangs can be done from the side bar, from the top bar and from the spanset. While the different positions will use slightly different grips the rest of the form and body connections will be the same. It is best if there is room for the body to hang in a straight line, but hollow body hangs can be done with bent knees. This tutorial will cover all of these variations.

A hollow body hang refers to a specific form and shape and there are a lot of ways students can compensate. Sometimes students may only need to be reminded of the specific form, but usually the best way to correct these mistakes is with floor drills, and a good dose of patience and consistency.
