Single Knee Russian Roll on Aerial Hoop is a dramatic and challenging way to roll around the hoop. It can be used as a transition to roll up to sit on the hoop or they can be done in multiples as a dynamic skill. Russian Rolls are really popular, but not because they are easy. They can often be a long term project, but once they are mastered they are very empowering and fun.
Russian Roll is deceptively difficult because there is a pullover inversion hiding inside the skill. Students who already have a pullover mount will have much more success with Russian Rolls. However, we have had some success using a russian roll as a training tool to build pullover strength.
Definitely be prepared to put a lot of time and practice into Single Knee Russian Rolls, but the effort is worth the reward.
