Side Ball Splits on aerial hoop is a less common splits skill. It requires strong triceps to make the final shape stable and performance worthy. This video will cover two different entrances. One entrance is from a side ball. The other entrance starts from a ball on top. Students need to be very comfortable with a side ball before attempting this skill. In addition their side ball should be strong enough to do it with the hip placement several inches away from the spanset and be stable enough to release the top hand.

We have found this skill is exceptionally tiring for students, especially their arms. It is important to consider the best place to put this skill within the class plan and only work on it in small amounts at a time.
