Up Over Down on Aerial Hoop is a fantastic drill for improving asymmetric pulling strength. There are so many skills on hoop that require pulling with both arms, but also pulling more through one arm than the other.

This is a more difficult version of seated pull ups and students should be having some success at seated pull ups before they start working on Up Over Downs. Just like seated pull ups, this drill can be done with the body lifted as high as possible or with the butt very light on the hoop.

This drill often gets a chorus of groans from students, but the asymmetric strength is an important part of many intermediate and advanced skills and well worth the effort.
