Back Arabesque with Arm Block is a back arabesque variation that builds on beginner level students’ understanding of aerial silk supports. We teach this skill later in our beginner level curriculum, after students have experience moving around on the silk and once they really understand how to shift their weight slowly with control.
This skill teaches students to support themselves with their arm and back muscles instead of their grip, and once students are beyond Level 1 then it transitions nicely into more advanced skills like Iron T. It’s very important when learning this skill for students to move slowly and with control, to maintain control of their balance as they transition in and out of the counterbalance that this skill creates.
