Footlock into Hip Key is a staple of our beginning intermediate level aerial silks curriculum because it’s accessible to students who are still working towards achieving their straddle ups and it builds strength to help students develop toward a strong windmill hip key in the air.

This entrance requires either a Dancer Footlock or a Half Footlock, and it also makes a great prep before students start working on Opposite Side Climb to Hip Key. When used in choreography it’s a unique, surprising, and satisfying way to get into a hip key in the air. This video shows the details to focus on to make this skill successful in the moment and useful in the long term.
