Hollow Body Hang can be more challenging than it looks. Hanging with a strong tight body from straight arms is a foundation for more advanced skills like straight arm straddle ups and any sort of beat, but at earlier levels it’s important to be aware of what the shoulders and the core are doing and how to connect the body strongly as it hangs in the air.
We only teach this skill after students are strong and comfortable in their shoulder shrugs, and our progressions start low to the ground and give students the control to take only as much weight into their arms as they’re ready for. Keeping the shoulders healthy is so important and finding the core connection with the arms overhead so elusive to some that it’s a good idea to revisit challenging basics like this often as students progress.
