The Magical Footlock Free Sequence on aerial silks is an example of the type of sequence that we have a lot of fun teaching to a mixed level group of students. This sequence contains movements that are in our Level 1 aerial silks curriculum, but in Level 1 they’re learned in a footlock where it’s easier and there’s more room for error.
When we take the footlock away, these moves require more attention to maintaining support on aerial silks. And then the sequence progresses into more challenging skills. This type of sequence typically challenges higher level aerial silk students because they may not have worked on these types of movements in awhile, and at the same time it gives lower level students an idea of how to create new supports on silks by building on moves they’re already familiar with.
This entire sequence can seem like magic to students when they’ve learned these same moves in footlocks, and for higher level students this type of sequence can be a great reminder that there is magic to be found by revisiting the basic skills that they learned earlier on in their training.
