Rebecca Split: Scorpion is a variation from a Rebecca Split set-up, that sets up a strong dramatic back arch shape. Understanding hip rotation is what makes this interesting skill work, and our teaching progressions focus on moving into position mindfully to set everything correctly.
Before teaching this variation we make sure students are comfortable in Rebecca Splits: Fake Knee Hang because that shape and support is a key part of the exit. Rebecca Splits: Scorpion is sometimes student’s first introduction to the Scorpion shape where the hips are above the shoulders and the legs are coming up over the head, and this version is interesting because only one leg makes the scorpion shape while the other remains shelved for extra support. That makes this a good skill for students who understand the concept of shelving for support and want to apply it to more complicated supports.
