In our beginner classes students will learn many skills in the knot, and at a higher level students will continue to use the knot for specific troubleshooting and conditioning drills. Beginner students love learning to tie their own knot in the silks, and it also frees the teacher up from running around changing knot heights during class.
We also use this skill to teach our students the aerial vocabulary for live end (also called pole), tail, and wrap. There are a lot of ways to teach this and different techniques and this video shows our teaching cues for new students.
