Single Shoulder Stand on Aerial Hoop is most often used as a transition rather than a final skill shape. Over the years, we have found that students often avoid hitting this full shape and miss out on the benefits of being able to find the straight body line and stack a lot of weight onto one shoulder, so we teach Single Shoulder Stand as a stand alone skill.

Single Shoulder Stand doesn’t fit neatly into our curriculum. For example, it can be a building block for an Inverted Man in the Moon and an Inverted Man in the Moon can be a building block for a Single Shoulder Stand. It often depends on the student and situation, so we use Single Shoulder Stand as a wild card. We use it when it is useful, but we don’t usually lead off with it.

There are a variety of entrances for Single Shoulder Stand, but this tutorial will just cover the two hands and two knees lower down entrance. Check out the Inverted Man in the Moon tutorials for other ideas on how to get in and out of this skill.
