The Single Arm Shoulder Rotation Drill on Aerial Hoop is one that we teach to our intermediate and advanced students as they work on skills like skin the cat, back flags, and other skills that require shoulder mobility in various directions. The key to this drill is understanding how to share weight effectively and how to feel and use gravity to  your advantage as you move through space.
This drill moves back and forth from external shoulder rotation to internal shoulder rotation. The shoulder is relatively fixed in space and so the rest of the body does a lot of the movement. There is always weight in the feet, but there is a lot of weight sharing with the arm as it rotates and the body moves through the full range of motion.
Body proportions will have an impact on the pathway, so students will have to experiment to find what works best with their own proportions. The following instructions are a good place to start.
