Back Straddle with a Low Knot is a Back Straddle variation that’s useful both for students having trouble getting into their Back Straddle and also, to challenge more experienced students to develop more core strength.

Setting the fabric knot on the sacrum instead of higher at the hips allows the body to tip upside down more easily, so we use it for beginner students who need a little extra support to get upside down. Setting the knot on the sacrum also allows more experienced students to pause at the halfway point before going fully upside down, and that’s a great place to work on building core strength.

So this variation is very useful and we come back to it with all levels of classes including beginner, intermediate, mixed, and even advanced for specific core strengthing challenges on aerial silks.
