There are many different ways to set up an ankle hang, and different wraps require different techniques to lock it in. The Dancer Wrap Ankle Hang requires strong flexed feet and a good amount of compression to set it up.
This ankle hang can be done from either two or three dancer wraps, and this video demonstrates it from two. It’s important to make sure the wraps are clean so that the toes and heels are free, so we teach this after students have experience with dancer wraps and a variety of dancer footlock skills.
We teach this skill low to the ground first, and the main video takes you through some of the progressions and cues we use when we teach this ankle hang to our students. The main video also shows two different exit possibilities as well as important tips for placement and foot and ankle engagement.
