Inverted Splits is a fundamental inverted position that we teach after our students are comfortable in their Inverted Tuck and Inverted Arrow shapes. Finding good balance and extension requires strong grip, shoulders, and core for support, and a strong sense of being able to actively extend out into full splits.

Once Inverted Splits have been mastered then they can be added to a variety of skills. Inverted Splits are an active split meaning strength is required to access the full depth of the aerialist’s split. If an aerialist has only passive flexibility and not active flexibility, then it will show up in skills like this. Training this skill helps get aerialists motivated to improve their active flexibility which helps keep them safe in the air in a variety of other skills from beginner through advanced.
