A Mill Circle is one of the first momentum skills that we teach on aerial hoop. Getting a mill circle is often a highlight for many aerial hoop students. A mill circle happens really quickly with a lot of different actions and pathways happening at the same time. Because there is so much happening at once, we often teach mill circles in layers.

The first layers are the bigger, broader concepts and then we focus on the details later. We also break down the skill into blocks to give students more accessible chunks of material to focus on.

Make sure to check out the related drill section below for drills on each of these blocks. By far the most valuable tool we have found to help teach Mill Circles and especially the final heal drive at the end is the Momentumless Mill Circle.

Mill circle is a project that can take a long time to figure out and even a longer time to master. Be patient with yourself and your students, it is a lot for them to do all at once and it is a lot for a teacher to observe all at once.
