This leg circling drill is one we often use for students first learning dancer wraps in the air. Understanding the leg pathway on the ground, and knowing how to actively rotate the hip and reach the leg out into space helps with all sorts of skills involving leg circles or leg wraps in the air. This drill is best used just prior to trying the movement on the apparatus rather than as a general warm up or conditioning drill. Having a wall or sturdy object to hold on to for balance can be useful during this activity.
