Straddles show up everywhere in aerial, so training them on the ground is a really important part of an aerial practice. Mobility and strength are equally important, and our aerial tutorial video covers a variety of training drills for improving straddle flexibility and strength for all types of students, whether they are starting with a lot of flexibility or very little flexibility in their straddle.

This tutorial video covers the alignment we’re looking for in a seated straddle, and tips to use props to find that alignment. Then we cover drills that challenge that alignment and build strength throughout the full range of motion, and drills that help students find that alignment if they have trouble. The more strength that a student has throughout their entire range of motion, the more functional that motion is going to be in the air. That means that any skills involving a straddle will feel easier and will also be safer in the body if they are trained to be strong and solidly aligned on the floor.

This video covers a variety of drills for those with limited straddle mobility, and drills for those who already have plenty of flexibillity and who are looking to progress further and build more strength in their straddles.
