The Faux Back Balance Entry to Back Balance on Top is an entrance we developed for students whose shoulders aren’t comfortable with the flamenco entry. Our students find this entrance much easier and it is now the first entry to back balance on top that we introduce.

Back Balance on Top is a deceptively difficult skill. Before approaching this skill students should be very comfortable with a regular back balance on the bottom bar of the hoop, because apparatus placement, body engagement, and balance control all translate to a back balance on top but a back balance on top also adds additional complexity.

Our students love this entry to back balance on top because it doesn’t demand so much range of motion on the shoulders and it feels very familiar if they have done the building blocks. We have grown to love this entry because it allows us to work with mixed level classes and give each student something similar and exciting to work on.
