Beat to Sit is the first Beat Skill we teach on Aerial Hoop. Students love how strong and confident they feel once they figure it out. We love using it to set the foundation for all future Beat Skills. We teach Beat to Sit first because it’s fairly simple and it’s also very practical. While beats are often used to enter other skills, this skill gives students a chance to focus on just the beat and use the lightness of the beat to return to where they started.

We consider Beat to Sit a unique type of Beat Skill that lives somewhere between a Pike Beat and a Long Hang Beat. It’s also worth noting that beats on Hoop feel different from beats on Trapeze or vertical apparatuses. On Hoop, the bottom bar creates an obstacle that changes both how the beat feels and how it needs to be taught.
