The Belly Roll to Straddle Back Balance Sequence on Aerial Hoop is a fairly long sequence that covers a lot of different material. We like how this sequence challenges students’ movement memory and especially how it contains skills with a huge variety of different supports. As teachers, we aren’t just watching to make sure students can remember all of the skills, but more importantly we want to see our students remember the active supports in each skill.

If students are having trouble transitioning or looking a little chaotic in their movement style, then it is possible they are too focused on making the approximate shape of the skill and not enough focused on each skill’s specific supports. This can be particularly evident in the hands free transition into the Man in the Moon, the lifting up transition into the faux single knee hang, and the transition from a front lion to a mermaid without using extra hand touches.
