The Elbow Hang Basics Exploration on Aerial Hoop is more of a suggestion for a fun class project than a specific sequence to follow. We introduce students to the concept of elbow hangs and elbow hooks by first having them experiment with modifying skills they already know. All they have to do is replace a hand grip with an elbow hook.

Not only can this be a fun and creative way to play on the apparatus, it also puts students in charge of home much they want to do with their elbow hooks. Some students love it and don’t mind the sensation and other students aren’t thrilled with how it feels and are quickly satisfied.

This sequence starts out with skills that apply very little pressure on the elbow and then escalates through skills that get more and more intense. I did this to demonstrate a spectrum of ideas. Your students don’t have to do it this way.
