The Star Pose to Mermaid Sequence on Aerial Hoop is often something that we teach in a student’s very first class. The sequence includes three skills that begin and end in a hollow body seat, so it is easy to stop and start or add and remove skills if necessary. The skills all stay on the bottom of the hoop which means they are very accessible and don’t require a lot of strength. They are all different enough that students have a good chance of keeping all of the steps of the skills separate and organized.
We always teach the skills in isolation prior to having them do the sequence. You can see all of the steps for the skills below. We also first introduce the sequence without fancy transitions. Each skill begins and ends in a hollow body seat. Once students are comfortable with the sequence, we then introduce more interesting transitions. Working on the more interesting transitions is something we save for future classes.
