Straddle Rotations on Aerial Hoop train one of the most important movement concepts on an aerial hoop. They teach students how to move their hips from one side of the hoop, up on top of the hoop and then over to the other side just by using their legs. This action is so important for creating effortless transitions from one skill to another.

Straddle rotations are a teaching tool to help students learn more about moving on the hoop. Rather than having students focus on a final shape, we want them to be able to do multiple sets of straddle rotations so they can practice moving the hips back and forth across the hoop.

Everyone’s body shape is unique and so everyone’s exact pathway may be a little bit unique as well. Make sure students are using their full range of motion to make the transition easy and effective and definitely work this drill on both sides of the body.
