We use the Thread Through to Thread Through Leg Calibration on Aerial Hoop to help students get more comfortable with the supporting leg sliding around on the hoop mid skill. This tutorial includes two versions. The bent leg version is usually enough for most students. The straight leg version is a good challenge for more advanced students, but it can be uncomfortable on the legs.

We always want our students to be aware of their bodies while moving, especially their primary supports. Feeling the support begin to slip or slide when doing a skill is often the first sign a skill isn’t going to work out. However, some skills require the support to slide to successfully complete the skill. Getting comfortable with this sort of mid skill slide can be a big challenge.

When switching sides in this leg calibration, the supporting leg will start relatively high up on the inside of the hoop, then as the upper body rotates towards belly down the supporting leg will slide down towards the bottom of the hoop. In truth, the slide is fairly small, but any amount of slide of the primary support can be really disconcerting to students.
