Basic Climb: Roll-Up Variation, also called Pretty Aerialist Climb, is a variation of basic climb that we teach to all of our new beginner students. This climb teaches students to use their legs and core, and in addition to being a great warm-up for the spine it also prepares students for other related skills like putting on their fooltocks in the air, and for using their legs and core to move around on the aerial silks instead of just relying on their arms and grip.
There’s no pull-up required for this climb, so students who can’t do a pull up are empowered by it. It’s also useful for beginner students who overuse their pull up, since aerial silks should be a full body experience.
In more advanced classes we still come back to this climb and often use it as a core warm-up before skills that involve C-shaping or any skills that will require us to roll up or down our spine.
