This aerial silks belay entry combines a drop with a belay, so our aerial silk students get very excited about it. This aerial silks belay entry starts in a Rebecca Split, and then drops into a belay from there.

We first began exploring this move when one of our long time students learned it from another instructor when she was traveling. But she was taught to drop this like a rock and it was very heavy looking and feeling and she didn’t understand at all how it worked. That experience inspired us to pick it apart and break it down and see how we would make it fit our aerial teaching pedagogy.

We discovered that there is a direction change in this aerial silks drop and when emphasized, it looks lovely and also softens the drop to feel better on the body. This aerial silks tutorial video covers our progressions for this drop, including how to walk it down with complete control the entire time before progressing into the drop itself.
