Hip Key Fake Seat is a partner of the Thigh Hitch Seat. In the thigh hitch seat a lock is formed when we dive through the middle to come into the seat. In a hip key, there’s no lock created and that’s why we call it a fake seat. There’s actually nothing to sit on so this skill requires a strong thigh squeeze to lock in, or keeping a little weight in the arms, or both.

This skill should also be explored alongside Knee Lock, which is very similar except that we do create a lock by bringing one knee through in a certain way. These skills all make interesting transitions especially when moving between skills where the fabrics are together, and then need to be separated. We teach this in our intermediate level classes, once students are comfortable holding strong Hip Keys and ready to explore variations from there.
