Hip Key from the Ground is a basic entry into hip key that we use to teach beginner aerial silk students about the supports that make a hip key work. We emphasize fabric placement and body engagement when teaching this skill, so our students learn what they’ll need to know to progress.

In our curriculum students begin to do a lot of skills from a hip key, like Layanna, Croissant, Figurehead, and many more only in Level 2 and beyond. At beginner level we do a lot of drills both from the ground and in a fabric knot to prep students to be strong and engaged in their hip keys, and to develop towards really nice hip key entries including a Windmill Hip Key in the air that they’re going to learn later. At a beginner level we use skills like this one to set the foundations for more advanced skills, right from day 1.
