The Opposite Side Wrap Exit: Climb to Hip Key combo is the first exit that we teach our aerial silk students from an Opposite Side Wrap. This clever aerial silks combo helps students make the connection between Opposite Side Wraps, sometimes also called Z Wraps, and Hip Keys. This transition also helps drill strong Windmill Hip Key technique, but in a sneaky way.
This combo typically feels very familiar to our students, because before we teach this in our aerial silks classes we typically have already taught our students prerequisite skills that are similar both in and out of the fabric knot. This combo is also a big part of the assessment that we typically use to progress students into more advanced levels on aerial silks. That’s because it requires good technique and also good understanding of the wraps in order to succeed. We teach this in our intermediate level aerial silks classes and consider it important to master before moving up to advanced.
