Rebecca Split is a classic skill that has many names and variations. This skill is named after Rebecca Leonard, but we’ve also heard this skill sometimes called Flamingo. Contrary to popular belief, oversplits are not necessary to make this skill look good, all that’s needed is reasonably strong splits and good technique to set it up.

Rebecca Split: Crochet Leg (Full) Version is an option once students are comfortable with the easier Knee Hook version. This version is a deeper split with more backbend to it as well. Our teaching progressions focus on hip safety and smarts while rotating into position, and learning to allow the fabric to slide to make more space to enter a comfortable split.

An easier variation that is less of a split is the Rebecca Split: Knee Hook Version. We always teach that first so students have options depending on what feels right for their body.
