Rebecca Split: Gazelle is a pausing point during the entrance to a Rebecca Split. We typically teach this before we teach students to continue up into the split. This skill can be practiced with an extra wrap around the belly for additional support and that is how we first introduce it to beginners.

Gazelle refers to the arched body shape where one knee is hooked on the apparatus and the other leg is extended back behind the body into space. Being strong and actively extended in this shape is really important as this shape is ubiquitous in aerial, and this skill is a great place to teach it because students can really press into the footlock and get some feedback on keeping that back leg strong.

Although this skilll is a pausing point on the way into the split, it can also be practiced and performed on its own as well.
