The Twisted Scissor Leg Calibration on Aerial Hoop teaches the concept of guiding the hoop with the action of bending and straightening the knees. There are two slightly different versions of this leg calibration. Extending the free arm up over the head or just keeping the arm bent and pulled into the chest. Extending the arm over the head creates a bigger balance shift which may make the usefulness of the calibration more noticeable.

Paying attention to and understanding the knee bend and the effect of the calf on the hoop is a super useful tool that applies to many skills. When used in other skills it is a nuanced motion that many students may not notice happening if they haven’t been told about it.
